PREPPING YOUR SKIN FOR THE BIG DAY

Brides, there is a huge misconception that make up can fix any skin concerns.  There is some truth to that if you’re make-up artist has celebrities as his or her clientele.  But if you’re like any other normal person, there are tricks to the trade that can help your skin look amazing for your big day, regardless of the condition of your skin.  Here are SOSN’s well researched and tested tricks to get your skin glowing:

Sleep is probably the most important recommendation dermatologists and previous brides can recommend.  It’s a high stressful time, which can wreak havoc on your skin.  Proper rest allows for the skin to rejuvenate to look fresh each morning.  Make this a part of your routine—8 hours of sleep per night is a must.

Along with sleep comes hydration.  Water is essential of course, but to get that real glow, drink green tea. This dates back way before any of our time but this is tried and proven and gives that fresh skin glow we all want.  A healthy diet is also necessary.   Stack those fruit and vegetables on your plate and stick to organic where possible.  Keep coffee to a limit, it does the exact opposite of what you want your skin to look like.

We learned recently of a secret Japanese remedy to great skin: Fish Collagen.  Now, we know this sounds gross but take it from us, it WORKS! It comes in a powder form and you can mix this in with water or orange juice.  Collagen is the key to skin reproduction and ingesting it twice a day is key.   If you’re allergic to fish or a vegetarian, an alternative would be a vitamin with a high dose of biotin or vitamin a which are both equally great for skin and hair.

Aside from diet and exercise, brides are often confused about how soon they should get a facial or wax before the big day.  To allow yourself time for your skin to heal and to prepare for any reactions, have these services taken care of at least 3 weeks in advance.  Up until the day, you can make some home remedies to create scrubs (lemon and sugar is just one we recommend) or a facial mask.  Keep it simple, the less, the better.

Prepping your skin requires more time than one would think. Start early, months before the big day is important and at the very minimum, one month before. Having a routine with all the mentioned tips is key.  Remember, keeping your skin healthy is what everyone notices, not so much the make up. And make up application is that much easier with healthy skin.

Happy Glowing!
